Moving logistics
I dropped off a note with all our neighbours today, to ask them if we could take over the street for Thursday and Friday when the removal men are here. I'd asked the company how much space I should reserve, and their reply? "47m, or 11 car length"! So that's what I'm doing (though I'll be flabbergasted if they manage to get a van anywhere near 30m, let alone 47, up our street!
We'll have Saturday 'free' to clean up, then Sunday we're off. There is a ferry that goes from Rosyth (just north of Edinburgh) all the way to Zeebrugge (in Belgium). Although it's quite expensive, it means that we wake up on the continent, well rested, and only have about 9h of driving south to finish the trip. Otherwise, we'd have to drive the length of Britain as well (and of course we'd have a hard time not visiting friends and family on the way - at this point, we really need just to move - we can come back for holidays).
If you'd like to see more about Grenoble and the surroundings, Google have released a nice piece of software called Google Earth. It takes a few minutes to download, but once you've done that you can use your mouse to navigate around the planet, zoom in (and tilt - you can then see the height of the mountains) really close.
